Changing Address on DMV Licenses in Washington

If you are ready to change the address on your Washington license to drive, there are several notes to keep in mind. Consider the following before you proceed with your drivers license address change at the Washington State Department of Licensing:

  • You must file a DOL address change within 10 days of moving.
  • The cost is free to update your address information with the DOL.

The simplest way to carry out a driving license address change in Washington is to do so online through the DOL portal. You will be able to change your residential address on your license, or add/change/delete an address if you have a different mailing address. To get started, have the following on hand:

  • Your Washington State drivers license number
  • The last four digits of your Social Security Number
  • Your date of birth
  • Your new address

Note that once you reach the confirmation page, your address change will take effect as soon as your submission is complete.

If you prefer to file your motor vehicle change of address in person, you can visit the driver licensing office location nearest you. In addition to your address change, when you visit a DOL office, you can also update information on your license to drive, including your eye color, your weight and your photo.

Purchasing an Updated Drivers License

As mentioned prior, to process an address change on a license in Washington is free of charge. However, if you would like to purchase a new drivers license with your updated address information, you can do so for a fee. Below, find the options listed if you would like to buy a license with your new residential address:

  • The cost to purchase an updated license at the DMV is $10.
  • The cost to purchase a drivers license replacement with your new address online is $20.
  • The cost to renew your license after your address change is $45 for five years and $54 for six years.

Note that when you change address on drivers licenses, the change will not be reflected on your Washington car registration. In order to file a change of address on your vehicle registration, you can use the online Department of Licensing portal, but make sure to have the license plate number and the Vehicle Identification Number on hand for any vehicle record you would like to update.
